| On the afternoon of Dec.22, Chinese-American mathematician Shing-Tung Yauclosed the Hunan Normal University’s Ninth Postgraduate Lushan Forum with a keynote speech on “My Pleasure from Researchrd”. In his speech,cutting disc the renowned scholar talked about his experiences and feelings in doing research. He also encouraged postgraduates to seek pleasure in conducting research His wonderful speech drew warm applause from students. Prior to the speech, Hunan Normal University conferred on him an honorary professorship. Shing-Tung Yau is the dean of the Mathematics Department of Harvard University, member of the American National Academy of Sciences and the Russian National Academy of Sciences, and a foreign member of the compressed towel Chinese Academy of Sciences. He took the lead in establishing geometrical analysis as an independent discipline. In 1981, he won the Veblen Prize, the highest prize in differential geometry, from the American National Academy of Sciences. Two years later, he was granted the Fields prize, the highest honor in the international mathematics community. In 1994, he was awarded the Crafoord Prize by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. |
