| On September 22, Zhou Qiang, deputy director of the Hunan Provincial CPC Committee and governor of Hunan Province, met with the Throttle valve group reviewing Langshan's World Natural Heritage application. The delegation was led by Graeme Worboys, vice chair of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas. Zhou Qiang extended the warmest welcome to Worboys and his delegation and expressed gratitude for the IUCN's (International Union for Non-return valve Conservation of Nature) support of the world heritage application in Hunan. Zhou described the Danxia formations in Hunan Province, developed mainly at the Mt. Langshan Scenic Spot. Hunan Province attaches such great importance to the World Heritage application of the Danxia formations that a special agency has been set up, detailed planning of the Langshan Scenic Spot has been compiled, and the Regulations on Protection of Langshan Scenic Spot have been formulated. Zhou said that winning World Heritage recognition for the Danxia formations is the common desire of the Hunan people and the people from all six provinces and regions covered by the Danxia landform. Based on its previous experience, Hunan has the ability to protect the formations well. Zhou also described the desire to take advantage of the current investigation to strengthen Hunan's cooperation with IUCN in related fields. |
